| Suitable fibres include:
* Glass
* Ceramic
* Synthetic microfibres
For fibre batch quality control and research, OFDA5000
is a unique automatic image analyser that measures the
mean and distribution of fibre diameter in micron, denier
or decitex.
OFDA5000 automatically calculates the mean and coefficient
of variation (CV) of diameter when a sample is measured.
The percentage of fibres in a given range can be easily
calculated from the histogram that is saved in spreadsheet
form.
Measured values
* Fibre diameter distribution
* Fibre curvature distribution
Statistical values:
* Mean value (mean fibre diameter in ?m, denier or
decitex)
* Standard deviation s
* Coefficient of variation CV%
* Histogram of diameter and curvature
* Fibre measurement points can be seen on the video
screen.
* Fibre images can be saved in Windows format for including
in reports
All data can be exported to spreadsheets for research.
Advantages and Benifits of OFDA 5000
* 0.5µm to 60µm fibre diameter range
* very high repeatability, mean value typically +/-
0.05um.
* spreadsheet output with 0.2µm resolution diameter
histogram
* up to 20,000 fibre snippets measured per minute
* no operator bias from measurement
* standard 70mm square glass slides used, rapid sample
preparation similar to OFDA100 instrument
Operating OFDA5000
Operation is similar to the OFDA100 instrument. Snippets
are cut from the sample using a 2mm guillotine and spread
by automatic spreader onto the hinged 70mm square glass
slide. This process takes 1-2 minutes. The slide of
snippets is then placed on the OFDA5000, the sample
identification is entered and the measurement of the
whole slide takes 45 seconds, typically measuring 4,000-20,000
fibre snippets depending on the quality of spread. The
sample is then brushed or vacuumed off the slide ready
for the next sample. Industry standard safety procedures
must be followed when handling particular fibre types.
